Week 7 – Types of Assessment

Types of Assessment
1.            Choose 3 quite different methods of assessment.
Assessment Type:
Worksheet assessment
Would this type of assessment be best applied when wanting to give formative or summative assessment? Can be both.
Why? A worksheet can be given out at any time during a lesson or term.
Is this type of assessment subjective or objective? Objective.
Why? Because most the worksheet will have right or wrong answers.
Could this type of assessment be classed as formal or informal? Formal.
Why? Because there is a definite score at the end of the worksheet. The score is formal but can be used informally.
Could this type of assessment be presented and applied verbally, online, or written on paper. It can be done in all three ways.

Assessment Type:
Practical demonstration
Would this type of assessment be best applied when wanting to give formative or summative assessment? Can be both.
Why? Demonstrations can be done at any point of learning.
Is this type of assessment subjective or objective? Subjective.
Why? There are many different scenarios and many different ways to reach a “correct” solution.
Could this type of assessment be classed as formal or informal? Informal.
Why? The demonstration can give the teacher and learner an idea of how the learner is doing on the subject.
Could this type of assessment be presented and applied verbally, online, or written on paper. It can be done in all three ways.

Assessment Type:
Assessment through Computer games
Would this type of assessment be best applied when wanting to give formative or summative assessment? Formative.
Why? A game can be played at any time but is not really used to give a mark to someone on a subject.
Is this type of assessment subjective or objective? Subjective.
Why? The game can have different objectives that can be done in different ways depending on the situation.
Could this type of assessment be classed as formal or informal? Informal.
Why? The game can give the learner an idea of how they are doing on the subject.
Could this type of assessment be presented and applied verbally, online, or written on paper. It can be done online.

2.             Describe the methods of assessment to be included in your artefact.  For each one, discuss whether it will be used as summative or formative assessment, whether it is subjective or objective and how you will implement and present it online.  Design/illustrations will enhance this.

For my artefact I will use Quizzes to give direct questions to the learners and possibly some interactive games within PowerPoints that I will use to teach.
The quizzes will be a form of Summative assessment as the quizzes will be given at the end of a topic to see how much the learner understands about the topics. It will be Objective as quizzes are mainly in this format with only one correct answer in the questions. The results of the quizzes will be Formal but given in a more Informal way to give encouragement to the young learner.
For the interactive games within PowerPoints it will be a Formative assessment as it will be given at during the lesson. It is possible that this will have a mix of both objective and subjective assessments with the questions. And the results will be Informal as it is seeing how the learner are doing on the topic.
