Week 8 – Feedback

In the lesson we were covering feedback and about what make good feedback and giving good feedback as well as the benefits of good feedback.

A Definition of feedback is giving your opinion about a piece of work or behaviour of someone and possibly suggesting area to improve and how they possibly can make these improvements.

Good feedback is focusing on the positive as well as the negatives and being constructive at the same time, giving the recipient examples and suggestions to help them improve but also stating what they have done well.

An example of feedback is the sandwich method. This method involves starting the feedback focusing on some positive aspects of the work, then stating what could be better and how it can be made better and finally ending the feedback on the positives. This method is intended to give a balanced account with the feedback and give necessary critique while ending the feedback on a high note.

Below is an example of feedback which I created in the lesson taking into account what we had covered such as what made good feedback as well as the sandwich method of presenting feedback.

After having a look at the PowerPoint in its current state, I find the idea for the questions to be interesting as it allows a young learner to identify words to objects, however with the answers to the questions I feel that it might confuse some young learner as all the answers can make a word and some answer are treated as an incorrect answer.  The question at the end also had an interesting idea as it gave an image just like before but tasked the young learner with identifying the correct spelling, with the wrong answers sounding like a way to spell the word correctly.

With the feedback given after each question I feel that the Try again slide might seem too negative to me without any sort of encouragement given. I also found that the sound options where blocked by the sound bar that appears after clicking the sound icon, but this point is more of a minor problem.

Overall with what I have seen I think that this game has some well thought-out ideas with some interesting ideas that I would like to see given some more challenge for the young learners.
